i let the cats in
i let them out
in between i see your self portraits
found myself reaching out to your face
my hands holding air
and because it was air in my grasp
i understood you better
i went to the stove
placed another stick inside
heard the hissss of departure
your portraits
so familiar you are to me
and the distance
the distance
now
i let the cats in
i let them out again
and this moment now
right now
when the fire takes hold of the stick
deceives it by the comfort of warmth
like the comfort of love
now
right now
take me to the snow covered floor
i will stand naked
with you
without you
but there
now
for a moment
that is nothing
you see it comes and goes
like life itself
this something
nothing
as the stick turns to ash
to nothing
as the cats disappear
into the woods
into the woods
into nothing but a moment
passed
